Pakistani housing type consists of houses, villas, farmhouses and apartments. Most people in Pakistan buy property and build their own houses. Karachi and Islamabad mostly has flats. People used to own a large size house. Villa's or large house is the symbol of a wealth in Pakistan. Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad have thousands of property millionaires like other big cities in the world.

House size is measured by lot size in Pakistan, but in allover the world house size is measured by covered area. Large house History in Pakistan
In the reign of Mughal and Sikh periods, houses iin cities were very small. Cities were fortified and the space was very small. This trend had changed when British government came there and demolished the fortified walls of big cities. Then British government start building the large size housing societies. Lahore and Model Town were developed in 1921.
Normal lot size of Model Town at that time was one (1) acre. Pakistan also imported the styles of USA houses in 1960s, during reign of President Ayub Khan. American villas and mansions were designed by the famous architects like Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Sullivan. Still We can see two to four Kanal houses of that time in Pakistan. Large houses were considered normal at the time when Pakistani population was just 60 million. Now the time population is 200 million but we are still building large houses on valuable agricultural land.
